Sipan and Amazon - Lima-Iquitos-Huaraz-Trujillo-Cajamarca-Chiclayo

Minimum number of travelers is 8. This is a 24-day tour. Combine our Sipan and Amazon tours to see all three major geographical and ecological regions of Peru; the desert coast, the Andes Mountains, and the Amazon.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday Depart for Lima, capital of Peru.
Day 2 - Friday Fly to Iquitos, largest Peruvian city on the Amazon River and the largest city in the world with no road connection. Explore the city.
Day 3 - 7 Saturday thru Wednesday Take a five-day boat tour of the Amazon River staying at the well-established Explorama lodges of Explorama, Explornapo, and Ceiba Tops. Take multiple jungle hikes to search for wildlife. Climb the trees and explore the upper canopy on a canopy walkway. Cruise the Amazon and Napo Rivers in search of pink river dolphins and fish for pirana.
Day 8 - Thursday Fly to Lima and bus to Casma - 6 hours. Visit Paramonga (Chimu – 1300 AD) ruins near Pativilca on the way.
Day 9 - Friday Tour Sechin (1600 BC) ruins in the morning. Bus to Huaraz (elev 10,000’) over Cordillera Negra (7 hours). With clear weather, view the Cordillera Blanca before dropping into Huaraz. The Cordillera Blanca has 50 peaks over 5700 meters (18,800 feet).
Day 10 - Saturday Cross the Cordillera Blanca and tour Chavin (Chavin – 1000-300 BC), the oldest major culture in Peru.
Day 11 - Sunday Day hike in the Cordillera Blanca.
Day 12 - Monday Day hike in the Cordillera Blanca.
Day 13 - Tuesday Tour valley (Callejon de Huaylas) – Yungay, Caraz, and Llanganuco. Short hike above Laguna Llanganuco. Stay overnight in Caraz.
Day 14 - Wednesday Travel to Trujillo by bus through the Canon del Pato (Duck Canyon) (9 hours). The road through the narrow canyon has over 50 tunnels.
Day 15 - Thursday Tour Chan Chan (Chimu-1300 AD) and La Huaca Esmeralda (Chimu-1300 AD) ruins. Visit beach at Huanchaco. Free afternoon.
Day 16 - Friday Tour La Huaca Arco Iris (Chimu-1300 AD) and Huacas del Sol y de la Luna (Moche-600 AD). Free afternoon in Trujillo.
Day 17 - Saturday Bus to Cajamarca – 9 hours (8700’), site of the victory by Pizarro over the Inca king Atahualpa.
Day 18 - Sunday Visit Banos del Inca, Cumbe Mayo and other sites.
Day 19 - Monday Free day in Cajamarca.
Day 20 - Tuesday Bus to Chiclayo – 7 hours.
Day 21 - Wednesday Tour Sipan (Moche–500 AD) and the two Lambayeque mesuems with a fabulous exhibit of gold artifacts discovered at Sipan.
Day 22 - Thursday Tour Tucume (Moche). Free afternoon.
Day 23 - Friday Free morning. Fly to Lima in afternoon and return to US.
Day 24 - Saturday Arrive in Seattle.
